The Program Committee lined up a variety of post conference activities for attendees who stayed through Thursday evening. Participants spent the afternoon and evening enjoying some of Phoenix's local activities. Botanical Garden Tour - a Desert Discovery$51.00 per person; 3:30 - 6:00 pm Enjoy a privately guided tour of the Garden's main trail, which displays arid region plants from around the world. The many interactive exhibits along the trail include the visitor challenge "Are You Saguaro Smart?", information on the Agave, and different calls of the Garden's residential birds. Tour includes: Guided Tour through Botanical Gardens, Discovery Trail Book, Transportation, and Professional Hostess/Commentator.
Taliesin West / Frank Lloyd Wright Tour$55.00 per person; 3:30 - 6:30 pm Taliesin West, a National Landmark, occupies 600 acres of Sonoran desert in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, a landscape filled with cactus, ironwood and mesquite. Taliesin West is owned by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, which comprises an architectural school. Escorted by a trained guide, your tour of Taliesin West will take you across courtyards and terraces, down garden paths, past a citrus grove and alongside the large drafting studio used by architects and apprentices of the Fellowship. Taliesin West is the winter home and workshop of Mr. Wright and his students, and was envisioned, planned and built by the master and his disciples. Indigenous materials were used throughout and his students built it, basically by hand. The visitor to Taliesin West is amazed at the expanse of the site, the intricate structures built of massive walls fashioned of desert rock embedded in the masonry, topped with canvas flaps for ceilings affixed to redwood beams.
Horseback Riding on South Mountain$86.00 per person; 3:30 - 6:00 pm Explore the beauty of the Sonoran Desert on the back of a cowboy's best friend! You'll say goodbye to civilization for a while as you ride South Mountain trails and bask in the beauty of the desert.... Travel in the territory of the mule deer, javelina, hawks, eagles, jackrabbits, roadrunners, and coyotes. You never know what you might see! All rides are guided into South Mountain Park, the largest city park in the world! With over 46 miles of trails, the certified Guides will entertain you with tales of western lore and interesting facts and trivia about the desert, its wildlife and its fauna. Jeepers Jamboree Desert Tour$115.00 per person; 3:30 - 7:00 pm Climb aboard an all-terrain 4 X 4 vehicle and travel through strands of majestic Saguaro Cactus, along trails long ago traveled by bands of Indians and early settlers. Enjoy the rugged terrain and exhilerating ride, not for the faint of heart! The knowledgeable and friendly guides will explain the vast array of vegetation and habitat of the desert creatures on a nature hike. Hiking and four-wheeling can work up a thirst - but not to worry, you'll have plenty of libations to enjoy. Then on the trail blazing path back to the Pointe, it's gold mines, families of quail, Cave Creek, the Tonto National Forest, roaming cattle, ssssssssssssssssssssnakes................
Wild West Dinner Event$55.00 per person; 7:00 - 9:30 pm Join us for an evening of dining and entertainment, wild west style. Set on a mountaintop overlooking the valley, Rustler's Rooste offers a fun, Old West atmosphere, complete with "Horny the Bull," a live steer who resides outside the eatery's old mineshaft. You will be able to test your cowboy skills in the "Steer Roping and Quick Draw Contest," and kick up your heels with the live country entertainment. Take in the Phoenix skyline, while enjoying the Chuckwagon Buffet including barbecued ribs and chicken, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, cowboy beans, homemade peach cobbler and much more! Transportation will be provided to and from the resort all evening. |
